St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Snellville, is hiring a part-time youth minister. St. Matthew’s strives to be a welcoming home for all who seek Jesus Christ as we share God’s love with the community.
Youth Minister Summary:
St. Matthew’s is looking for a warm, dedicated, and organized youth minister. This person will offer hands-on, relational, and visionary leadership for youth and their families. Working closely with clergy, staff, and lay volunteers, our youth minister will help foster a lively, inclusive spiritual community focused on lifelong Christian growth. The role combines pastoral care, program management, volunteer development, and curriculum oversight.
In this role, the youth minister will develop and lead a vibrant youth ministry that encompasses faith formation, fellowship, service, and worship. The youth minister’s goal is to create a safe, inclusive space where every youth can discover the person God created them to be and be a part of a safe, welcoming community of youth and peers. This position is not just about coordination — it involves actively engaging with youth on Sundays and at major parish and diocesan youth events throughout the year.
What You’ll Do
- Inspire and Guide: Model the Christian faith, helping students at St. Matthew’s grow as disciples and leaders of Christ. Build positive, trusting, and affirming relationships with our teens.
- Create Engaging Programs: Coordinate Sunday morning Christian Formation classes and Sunday evening Youth Group activities. Collaborate with the Christian Formation and Youth Committees on major initiatives, including Confirmation Preparation Classes and youth-sponsored parish events such as the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Vacation Bible School.
- Build Community: Create a welcoming environment where teens are eager to invite their friends to the church. Recruit, train, and empower adult volunteers to support youth ministry programs and opportunities.
- Lead Beyond the Walls: Collaborate with the Parish Outreach Committee to create meaningful service opportunities both inside and outside the church. Promote and organize participation in diocesan programs, including New Beginnings, Happening, and DYC.
- Empower Youth in Worship: Support worship ministry leaders in helping teens become active worship leaders, including acolytes, ushers, lectors, and eucharistic ministers. Work closely with and help coordinate with our volunteer adult acolyte leaders.
- Manage the Ministry: Communicate clearly with parents, teens, and the broader parish community through social media, email, and other publications. Create and oversee the youth ministry budget, and collaborate with other parish ministries for opportunities for youth involvement. Meet monthly with the Rector to evaluate and discuss the program. Hold regular meetings with the Youth Committee and attend the monthly Christian Formation Committee Meeting. Maintain mature, safe boundaries with youth and the parish community. Be at church on Sunday mornings and evenings, as well as during seasons such as Christmas and Holy Week.
