Rector’s Corner for August 30, 2026

August 27, 2026

As the late-summer rhythm shifts toward the new school year, a vibrant new program year has begun. The fall months at St. Matthew’s always bring renewed energy to our campus and ministries. Whether you have been worshipping with us for decades or have walked through our doors for the first time in the past few months, this season offers a fresh invitation to deepen your faith, forge new friendships, and share your unique gifts. Christian community thrives when we learn, serve, and worship side by side. As we kick off our fall schedule, consider where the Holy Spirit might be calling you to step in:

Christian Formation for All Ages: Our Sunday morning formation has resumed at 9:30 AM, between services. We offer two children’s classes for pre-K and elementary students, as well as a formation opportunity for our youth. Our adult classes include a study of the Book of Genesis and a survey of humor and wit in the Bible. The Centering Prayer and the Walking with the Word Bible Study have also resumed. The Café Theology Book Group will begin a new book in October.

Youth Ministries: Our new youth minister, Christina Dedo, and the Youth Committee have scheduled many youth group meetings and events throughout the fall for youth in grades 6 to 12.

Worship & Liturgical Ministries: Lift your voice or ring a handbell in the Adult and Bell Choirs (rehearsals on Wednesday evenings), or serve during our liturgies as an acolyte, lector (reader), eucharistic minister, usher/greeter, or as a member of the Altar, Flower, and Bread Guilds.

Outreach & Hands-on Service: Put our faith into action through our monthly collection for the Southeast Gwinnett Food Co-op and by preparing meals for the Co-op’s dinner on the fifth Monday (next week, August 31). Knit, Crochet, Pray continues to meet and prepare many items for outreach in our community and beyond.

Fellowship: Don’t forget breakfast on Sunday mornings in the Parish Hall. The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew have meetings and events this fall. The Men’s Trivia Group continues to meet on Wednesdays for food and fun. The Fellowship Committee has scheduled many parish events through the fall, including the St. Matthew’s Day International Potluck Lunch on September 20 (more information to come).

Dinner Theater: Don’t forget the next dinner theater this weekend. It will be a great opportunity for outreach, fellowship (with a fantastic meal), evangelism, and to welcome people to the church. We’ll offer another holiday musical later in December.

There are numerous ways to get involved and participate at St. Matthew’s. If you have questions about our ministries, classes, or service opportunities, visit our website or contact the parish office. I look forward to seeing you during the fall and around campus.

In Christ,
Father Tim
